👋 Hello Dividend Growth Investors.

I hope you are doing wonderful and have not missed me much. I have been quiet because I was traveling and recently got back to my routine.

In January, the markets hit new highs. However, the momentum faded towards the end of the month as volatility increased, fueled by fears of a more contagious COVID-19 variant.

To end the month, the S&P 500 was down 1.11%, the Dow was down 2.04% but the Nasdaq was up 1.42%.

So, what happened?

Q4 earnings season produced better than expected results. Apple, my portfolio company, reported its first-ever $100 billion revenue quarter. Nonetheless, there was no material movement in the stock price. When this happens, it means the better than expected result is priced in already.

On the vaccine front, investors were faced with many mixed headlines. It all comes down to distribution being slow and muddled by avoidable problems. But things are getting better. Infections are down, doses are increasing.

And of course, there was the Robinhood/Reddit saga. I won’t discuss that because by now, everyone has tried to explain to you what happened. I will simply say that it takes a lot to move the market. Don’t know how it was pulled off but it was a stroke of genius.

Let’s do the numbers.
